Detectives appeal for witnesses following a serious assault in St John's Lane, Liverpool

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a serious assault in Liverpool in the early hours of Tuesday, 2 April.

At around 4.55am, police and the ambulance service were called to St John’s Lane, close to Dr Duncans’ public house, to reports a group of four men had assaulted a man.

The 23-year-old man was found injured and taken to hospital for treatment after suffering a number of injuries. This included a head injury, numerous facial and eye socket fractures, nose and sinus damage and a spinal fracture. He is now out of hospital and continuing to recover.

Following enquiries, a 22-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of assault and robbery. He has since been released on bail.

An investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
Detective Inspector Graeme Towndrow said, “I am pleased that we are making progress investigating this awful attack however we know a number of people were involved and I would appeal to anyone that was in the area of St. Johns Gardens at around 5am on 2 April, including the offenders, to come forward.

“Our CCTV and witness enquiries continue, so please come forward with what you know and we will take positive action to identify and bring to justice those responsible."
