Officers ask for help after man is shot in Whiston
Merseyside Police are appealing for witnesses after a man self-presented at hospital with gunshot wounds.
The man arrived at hospital at around 11pm yesterday evening (31st July) and was treated for two gunshot wounds to his arm and groin area.
The incident is however believed to have happened at Stadt Moers Park (near Coalgate Road/Paradise Lane), Whiston earlier in the evening where, whilst the victim was walking towards Whiston Cemetery, he was reportedly assaulted and then shot.
Chief Inspector Kevin Chatterton said: “Although we believe this to be a targeted attack, this doesn’t make it any less serious and we are doing everything we can to establish exactly what happened.
“Luckily, the victims injuries are not thought to be life threatening. However, we want to remind those carrying and using dangerous weapons of the serious and sometimes fatal consequences.
“We must do all we can to educate people on the dangers of guns and associated crimes as well as encouraging communities to work together to report suspicious behaviour and those suspected of having weapons so we can take these off our streets and make Merseyside a safer place.
“Anyone with information that could help us identify the offender or on other similar incidents is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or contact @CrimestoppersUK anonymously quoting 19100421242.”
