Renewed appeal for witnesses following serious road traffic collision in Woolton before Christmas

We are issuing a further appeal for witnesses to come forward following a serious road traffic collision in Hillfoot Road, Woolton on Saturday, 22 December.

At 2.25pm, a collision was reported between a blue Toyota Auras and a male pedestrian in his 70s on Hillfoot Road, just after the junction with School Lane and between Springwood Cemetery and Hunts Cross Shopping Park.

Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital. His current condition is described as serious but stable and he remains in hospital.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Constable Andy Roper said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this collision and are aware that a number of people may have initially stopped at the scene to assist, not all of whom have yet provided statements to police.

"We are particularly interested in speaking to witnesses including who we think were an off-duty medic and off-duty fireman. These people at the scene at the time and assisted the injured male.

“This was a busy time of day, with increased traffic due to being the last Saturday before Christmas, so I would urge any witnesses, or anyone with home CCTV or vehicle dashcam footage to get in touch.”

Anyone with info is urged to call the Roads Policing Unit on 0151 777 5747, message our social media desk @MerPolCC, or call 101 quoting reference number 18400073957.
