Second man arrested and Post Mortem result confirmed following murder in Bootle

Detectives investigating a murder in Bootle have arrested a second man in connection with the offence and confirmed the cause of the man’s death.

Officers were called to Monfa Road shortly before 1.55am yesterday to reports a man had been found with life-threatening injuries in the street following reports of an altercation. Emergency services attended and the man, in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A 49-year-old man from Bootle was arrested on suspicion of murder late last night and has been taken to a police station for questioning.

A 41-year-old man from Bootle arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday (Monday 6 May) remains in custody at the time of writing.

Detectives believe that all parties involved knew each other.

A Home Office post mortem has confirmed that the cause of death was abdominal bleeding due to deep penetrating wound to abdomen consistent with a crossbow discharge. The crossbow has been recovered.

Enquiries are ongoing to formally identify the victim, whose next of kin are aware.
