Three arrested following assault in Vauxhall

Detectives investigating an assault in Vauxhall on Thursday have arrested three men and have appealed for witnesses of a car used by offenders to leave the scene.

The 24-year-old victim was with his sister outside the Everydays store on Vauxhall Road at about 8.15pm on Thursday, 10 January 2019 when they were approached by three men, believed to be known to them.

Three men, armed with what was described as a machete and a baseball bat, attacked the victim and they escaped in small van along Vauxhall Road out of the city.

The victim suffered stab wounds to his leg and his back and his sister, who tried to help her brother, suffered a wound to her arm. The victim was taken to hospital where his condition is described as stable and his sister also went to hospital for treatment to an injury to her arm.

A 24-year-old man from Barnsley, a 33-year-old man of no fixed address and a 36-year-old man from Doncaster were arrested in the Stoke area on suspicion of assault and taken for interview. They have been released on conditional bail.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a burgundy-coloured Subaru Forester car, with the registration number SJ52 OCB, which is believed to have been used by the offenders and later found burnt out in Skelmersdale.

Detective Inspector Phil Mahon said: “We would like to speak to anyone who might have seen the vehicle before or after the incident occurred, and who may have witnessed the offenders leave the vehicle in Skelmersdale.

“If you were driving in the Vauxhall area shortly before or after 8.15pm on Thursday and have dashcam footage, we would urge you to check it for any images of the Subaru car.”
