Two men sentenced following burglary last March

Detectives have today (1st May) welcomed the sentencing of two men following a burglary on Brimstage Road, Wirral last year.

Jake Mawhinney, 19, of Balfe Street, Sefton pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to 20 months behind bars.

Adam Hastings, 27, of Harrops Croft, Sefton pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to 36 months behind bars.

Officers were called at around 2.30pm on 25th March 2018 to the residential address following reports that men wearing balaclavas had been seen running away from the property before making off in a Black Saab car.

Police later recovered the car abandoned on Cambridge Road, Woodchurch where inside they found a crowbar, screw driver and stolen property.

Following extensive CCTV analysis Mawhinney and Hastings were identified as potential suspects, arrested and charged.

DI Andy McCourt said: “Luckily the occupants were out enjoying a meal when the offenders broke into their house so no one came to any physical harm, however the victims have been left feeling distraught and nervous in their own home.

“Burglary is a truly invasive crime and knowing someone has been in your property and gone through your belongings can be really upsetting. We are pleased that two burglars are now behind bars, however I’d continue to ask anyone else that knows of people committing a similar offence in their area, to get in touch so we can investigate accordingly.
