Man in custody following Islington stabbing

A man has been arrested after a woman was stabbed in a park in Islington on Monday, 3 November.

On Tuesday, 4 November a man in his 20s was arrested by Met officers on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

A woman in her 50s was also arrested on Tuesday, 4 November on suspicion of assisting an offender, and remains in police custody.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended Elthorne Park, Islington yesterday after reports of a stabbing.

A woman in her 20s was treated for stab wounds and was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

Officers have confirmed the suspect and victim were known to each other.

Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing in Central North, said: “The arrest of the suspect marks a significant stage in our investigation.

“Though a man is in custody, we do understand that this incident has caused extreme concern in the community and we would like to reassure the public there will be extra officers in the area over the next few days as enquiries continue.

“As our investigation is still ongoing we’d urge anyone with any information or who may have been a witness to please contact us on 101 or online, quoting CAD7669/03NOV. The smallest bit of information could make a real difference.”
