Met sets out public order policing plan for the weekend

The Met will be deploying close to 1,000 officers to police several different events taking place across London on Saturday 13 April.

In addition to five football fixtures, there are a number of other protests and events, two of which have had restrictions imposed upon them.

A Palestine Solidarity Campaign demonstration will begin at 12pm at Russell Square, before proceeding towards Aldwych, along the Embankment and finishing in Parliament Square.

At the same time a demonstration by Turning Point UK will be held on Whitehall.

We have imposed conditions under the Public Order Act on both demonstrations.

Any person participating in the Palestine Solidarity Campaign procession, must not deviate from the route specified on the below map.

The conditions also set out that any person participating in the Palestine Solidarity Campaign protest must not enter the area shaded in red, below, and that the rally in Parliament Square must conclude by 17:00hrs.

Any person participating in the Turning Point UK protest must remain within the identified area in Whitehall, shaded on the map below. The assembly must conclude by 17:00hrs.

Any person participating in the “Enough is Enough” protest must remain within the identified area at the Aldwych in the shaded area of the map below

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan, who is leading the policing operation this weekend, said:

“We recognise the conflict between Israel and Hamas is continuing to be an issue of concern for many Londoners.

“As we have done over the past six months, we will continue to police without fear or favour, intervening swiftly where we see criminal behaviour, while also ensuring that disruption to Londoners is minimised.

“My team and I have met with the organisers to manage the continued impact of these demonstrations.

“Our officers will be supported by officers from other forces and I am once again thankful for their support.”
