Police have made an arrest following the death of two men in Southwark

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following an investigation, led by detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.

A man from Hackney, who had been initially detained in connection with the incident, was arrested on Monday, 28 July. He remains in hospital and his condition is not life-threatening.

Officers were called at 13:00hrs on Monday, 28 July to reports that multiple people had been assaulted at a business unit in Long Lane, Bermondsey SE1.

Police and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene and treated four people for stab wounds.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, 58-year-old-Terry McMillan from Chislehurst, Bromley, died at the scene. His 27-year-old son, Brendan McMillan, has sadly died since. Their next of kin are aware and being supported by specialist officers.

Three other men were taken to hospital.

Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing for the area, said:

“Our thoughts are first and foremost with the family and friends of the victims of this tragic incident. Our investigation continues at pace and we are working hard to understand the full circumstances.

“I understand there may be concern in the local community and there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days. I would also encourage anyone who may be worried to speak to an officer.”

A crime scene remains in place and officers continue to investigate the circumstances.

The incident took place in an business premises and a crime scene is in place at a nearby hotel where the arrested man went into. We are aware of speculation the man was staying at the hotel, this is not the case.
