Two charged after Flying Squad investigation into bank burglaries

Two men have been arrested and charged by Met officers investigating a series of burglaries at banks and building societies.

Flying Squad officers launched an investigation into seven overnight burglaries at banks and building societies between 10 January and 4 February. The branches were in Waltham Forest, Haringey, Enfield and Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire. On six occasions the suspects made off with a quantity of cash.

An overnight burglary at a restaurant in Hoe Street, Walthamstow on 1 February was also linked to the series.

Met detectives were able to identify a car linked to the burglaries even though different cloned plates were used. Following an extensive and painstaking investigation, two men were arrested on 9 February in South Tottenham. A sledge hammer and other tools were recovered from the car linked to the two men which was parked nearby.

Both men, aged in their 40s, were charged on 10 February with conspiracy to burgle and theft offences. They will appear in custody at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 8 March.
