Nokia 5230 - Get Smart with Nokia’s Latest Smartphone

Nokia is not one of the major mobile phone brands that are associated with producing cutting edge technology in the form of Smartphones. In fact, they are somewhat lagging behind at the moment according to some experts, but that is not to say that they have not released phones that are designed to challenge other brands of late. The Nokia 5230 is one of the phones that have been released of late in the Smartphone sector, but is it any good and can it provide users with what they want?

First of all, it is worth noting that the Nokia 5230 is only designed to be an entry level Smartphone so it is not designed to challenge the more expensive handsets. However, that is not to say that it does not have significant strengths. It comes in several different colours – black, purple, pink and white – so as to appeal to a younger audience as well as the older one. It has a 3.2 inch touchscreen and that obviously dominates the handset. Rightly so when you consider that it is highly functional and incredibly clear, but the sleek design and stylish nature of the phone also deserves a mention. In addition, the unambiguous style of the handset translates directly to the menus too. With a cool looking phone like this, you can really take advantage of it if you get this phone via phone deals with free gifts so you can grab any other gadget that you want along with it.

As in all Nokia handsets, the Nokia 5230 menus are easy to navigate and clearly show where everything is. However, the features themselves are worth mentioning in most cases. The handset has a Symbian S60 operating system and comes with plenty of lovely touches as a result. The A-GPS with Ovi Maps is particularly good and there are plenty of downloadable apps available from the Ovi store. Given the fact that it is a 3G phone you can essential make it into whatever you like in terms of its functionality. The download speeds are good thanks to the HSDPA connectivity. There is also a music player present and it really is quite good despite the absence of stereo speakers.

However, there are a few niggles associated with the Nokia 5230. For example, there is no WiFi and the camera is unbelievably poor. It is only 2MP and the only extra feature that is incorporated is a 3x digital zoom. There is no flash and no autofocus so the pictures taken are of a poor quality and really not worth bothering with. The memory is also pretty pathetic when compared to other Smartphones. The Nokia 5230 only has 70MB onboard but it can be expanded to 16GB if you so wish.

Considering the Nokia 5230 is an entry level Smartphone, the handset really is quite a decent effort on Nokia’s part. It has a lot of features that are not only usable but a pleasure to call upon. In addition, it has quite a lot of the latest technology onboard as well. As such, it can be ideal for someone that only needs certain features or wants a gentle introduction to the world of Smartphones rather than a full on assault.
