The future of eID

eID is an electronic identification solution for citizens and organizations, accessing services by banks, government authorities and other companies.

  • Many service providers give users the option to sign electronic documents with a digital signature (non-repudiation). A strong eID is based on PKI and certificates. Common Access Credential is one form of eID, which is a physical identity card with a chip that carries the keys and certificates in a secure way and enables the card to be used for online and offline personal identification, authentication or signing. The card may be used for online authentication for e-government applications. An electronic signature, provided by a private company, may also be stored on the chip and act as an eID.

The information in an eID (certificate) can vary. A unique identifier in a combination with personal details is standard in a national and government issued eID. But it can also be issued by an organization as standalone or as a complement and represent a role, for example title, organization and employee number.

The latest form of eID is mobile and more flexible than other solutions. The trend is that the mobile eID is easy to integrate to, highly appreciated by the public and being adopted in a much faster pace. In markets where traditional eID cards has been used, the trend is to combine mobile and traditional, but in other markets whereeID is introduced now the mobile eID will be the standard.

Delivering a standardized and secure certificate is the heart of the solution but still fairly straight forward. Creating a flexible and secure solution that drives appreciation and frequent usage by the end user is the challenge!

neXus has been in the driving seat of creating eID solutions since 1984.

Let us update you on how deploying a strong and user friendly and mobile eID can help bringing down barriers in the Digital Single Market.

The future of eID…. It is already here today and being deployed by the forerunners.
