Young athletes from across the north-east of Glasgow took to the track in last week as the ng Classic Athletics Final returned to Glasgow Club Crownpoint Sports Complex.

Pupils from eight secondary schools competed in a full day of track and field events, with strong participation from All Saints Secondary School, Bannerman High School, Eastbank Academy, Springburn Academy, St Andrew’s RC High School, St Mungo’s Academy, St Roch’s Secondary School and Whitehill Secondary School.

Despite cold and wet conditions, spirits remained high throughout the competition. St Andrew’s RC High School successfully defended their title, finishing top of the leaderboard. St Mungo’s Academy secured second place, with All Saints Secondary School taking third.

First launched in 2015 with four schools, the ng Classic Athletics programme has grown significantly, now involving eight schools in its final. The event provides young people with the opportunity to compete on a full athletics track, helping to build confidence and support progression in the sport.

The ng Classic Athletics Final is supported by ng homes and delivered by the North East Active Schools team.

Greg Cann, Project Manager at ng homes, said: “Well done to everyone who took part. It’s fantastic to see the event continue to grow each year and the enthusiasm from all involved, especially in challenging conditions.”
