The Summer 2025 edition of Northumbria University’s newspaper is available to collect on campus or read online now.
Packed with the latest news, features and interviews, the newspaper is the perfect way to keep up to date with the exciting developments taking place across the University.
In this issue we celebrate Baroness Tanni Grey-Thomspon’s decade as Chancellor of Northumbria University. As Tanni reaches the end of her tenure, we look back on her inspirational journey and unwavering commitment to championing equality, social mobility and education. We hear from key figures who have worked with Tanni over the last 10 years, as well as Tanni herself in a special Big Interview.
Included with this issue are the latest success stories from our staff, students and alumni. Our front page recognises Film graduate Lol Crawley, who was awarded the Oscar for Best Cinematography for his work on the film The Brutalist. Closer to home, there have been achievements for students across a range of disciplines, from Film to Fashion. Meanwhile prestigious fellowships have been awarded to several academics, including to the Royal Statistical Society, Association for Art History, and Academy of Social Sciences.
Throughout this issue we share news of the latest research being carried out at Northumbria, including using technology to support people living with dementia in rural and remote areas, investigating how AI can be used to speed up the development of life-saving drugs, and how adopting playful learning techniques in higher education could produce more resilient graduates.
And in our sports pages, we look back at an exceptional year for Northumbria Sport, with more students than ever engaging in sporting activities – securing extraordinary team and individual achievements.
