‘STUDENT SWITCH OFF’ CAMPAIGN WINS NATIONAL GREEN AWARD
The Student Switch Off a not for profit campaign encouraging student action on climate change has won the Award for Behaviour Change at the 12th annual Ashden Awards, the world’s leading green energy awards, held on 30 May 2012.
Student Switch Off, run by Neil Jennings Associates CIC in conjunction with the National Union of Student, runs energy saving competitions in halls of residence at 43 universities across the UK and achieves an average 7% reduction in electricity usage.
Speaking about the award, Jamie Agombar, NUS Ethical and Environmental Manager, said:
“It’s fantastic news to be associated with such an incredible scheme and such a prestigious award.
“Students are at the forefront of environmental campaigns across the UK and NUS is proud to be a core part of helping them and their students’ unions to work with their colleges and universities to be leaders in changing behaviour and reducing emissions.”

This year Student Switch Off has been delivered at 43 universities and colleges, collectively reaching 101,000 students, engaging 21,000, and delivering average energy savings of 7.1%, totalling 609 tCO2.
