Press release -
Harley Street Nutritional Therapist available for Comment on Psoriasis ahead of World Psoriasis Day
Psoriasis is a common skin condition that affects 2-3% of the United Kingdom and Ireland and can start at any age. World Psoriasis Day is an annual event that aims to raise awareness of this lifelong skin disorder that affects almost 3% of the world’s population.
Ahead of World Psoriasis Day on Tuesday 29th October 2013; Nutrition & Vitality’s head nutritional therapist Victoria Tyler, a specialist in managing skin conditions, is happy to provide expert comment and advice on this painful condition.
How does psoriasis affect the skin?
Normally skin cells take around 21-28 days to replace themselves, yet for people affected by psoriasis, this process is greatly accelerated, and skin cells can be replaced every 2-6 days. This results in an accumulation of skin cells on the surface of the skin, which can appear anywhere. Plague psoriasis is the most common form of the condition and appears as raised, red patches covered with a silvery build-up of dead skin cells.
“Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease and occurs when the immune system sends out faulty signals that speed up the growth of skin cells,” says Victoria. “It is possible to greatly reduce the inflammatory response of this condition by eating foods such as fish, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables which dampen down the allergic reaction. Supplements such as zinc, glutamine, fish oils and probiotics can also be very beneficial.”
Special offer: Victoria is offering a 20% discount to all psoriasis sufferers that book a consultation at the Harley Street practice, call 0845 129 7996 to book, quoting ‘NV01’.
