Big Appliances turns from being a small family business to UK’s leading white goods importer

(Mynewsdesk) 23rd June 2010 - Although it retains its small family business values it has become the UK’s leading supplier and now dominates the market in the importation of Stoves range cookers, Belling range cookers, Falcon range cookers and Smeg range cookers (among, of course, many other brands), has become the deserving heart of a heart warming business success story – one of those tales of Jack vs the giant that we consumers love so much to hear.

In 1964 Big Appliances like many other people had probably never heard of Smeg range cookers – or Falcon range cookers; Stoves range cookers; and Belling range cookers, but it had heard of customer service. From its humble beginnings it has always believed that friendly interaction, impartial advice and a genuine commitment to finding the best price for its customers, was the best way to run a business.

In the 1980’s other white good importers defined their customers service strategy as being able to obtain as much money from someone without them noticing it.  Whilst these companies kept on fleecing their customers Big Appliances kept right on sourcing the best white goods it could find (the 20 years ago equivalent of Falcon range cookers, Stoves range cookers, Belling range cookers and Smeg range cookers) and selling them for fair prices to happy customers. Around it, its rivals thrived on duplicitous contracts (it is still normal practice in the white goods importation industry to hit a customer with hidden costs for everything from delivery to magazine subscription) and unfairly elevated prices.

Big Appliances rise to prominence had been triggered by two events, one that happened years ago and one not to far back – the credit crunch.   The Internet being the first life changing event became an incredible way of selling Belling range cookers, Falcon range cookers, Stoves range cookers and Smeg range cookers. The Internet became a wonderful way of spreading word of mouth which has enabled this company which still retains its small family ways of conducting business to actually sell these range cookers, fridge freezers and so on, for less than its competitors – people start to notice. Then they start to buy. Big Appliances’ star, never dimmed, was suddenly in the ascendant.

The credit crunch was the second event to happen which of course has seen the bottom drop out of the Western economy. As a result of this event people will only spend money on items if they need too and then only if it’s fairly priced. Big Appliances however kept on giving its customers a fair price, from the sale of its first 60s style freezer boxes to today’s  selection of range cookers such as Smeg range cookers; Belling range cookers; Falcon range cookers; and Stoves range cookers and was the only one in a position to sell at the price customers were willing to pay.

Big Appliances as a result of this has removed everyone else from the game without even trying. All because it’s been devoted to fair trading since day one. In the Internet age, it seems, the family business is still king.
