How to pack for your winter holiday

Winter break starts this weekend and many will be travelling to domestic and foreign destinations. Oslo Airport (OSL) has created a winter page with all the information you will need before you leave on your holiday.

The winter holidays are a busy time at Oslo Airport, with many passengers taking to the skies.

“Passengers usually have more baggage in connection with the winter break, and naturally enough, more pairs of skis are sent than you normally see,” says Joachim Westher Andersen, media manager at OSL.

“As a help, we've created a special winter page on osl.no with advice and tips on how to pack your gear for your winter ski break.”

Skis are special baggage
Ski equipment must be sent as special baggage, as most airlines charge extra for ski equipment. Andersen also encourages passengers to set aside plenty of time prior to leaving for their winter holiday.

“Whenever you travel you have to calculate how long it takes you to get to and from Oslo Airport. In your calculation you should also include checking in, sending special baggage, the security check, shopping and the time it takes to walk to your gate,” says Andersen.

“Travellers headed to non-Schengen countries must allow extra time for passport control and if you are travelling domestically and are leaving from gate 19A - 19H you need to allow additional time to get to the gate. We encourage everyone to arrive at the airport at the normal time, but to take into account traffic to and from the airport and other elements that may take more time, such as having additional baggage.”

Use the family track
Oslo Airport has introduced a separate track in the security checkpoint for families with children.

“All families travelling with children under 12 and children travelling alone can use the family track. Look for the big yellow balloon at the security checkpoint,” says Andersen.
