Reduced emergency passport capacity at OSL this summer

Don't wait until you get to Oslo Airport if you need an emergency passport for your trip abroad. The police at Gardermoen have reduced capacity this summer, and ask that you first contact your local police district if you need an emergency passport.

Reduced staffing

Gardermoen police station will have somewhat reduced capacity during the summer holiday season. This means that the police post in the terminal building at Oslo Airport will be closed from time to time.

"The police post in the terminal at Oslo Airport is generally open 24/7. However, we may have to close from time to time due to reduced staffing. Border and passport control will be prioritised in such cases," says Lars Hegstad, section head at Gardermoen police station.

Emergency passports are not accepted in some countries
No emergency passports will be issued when the police station is closed. Therefore, anyone who needs an emergency passport should first contact their local police district, which has primary responsibility for providing this service. Remember that emergency passports only apply for a single trip, and they are not valid in every country as they are hand-written. The US, India and Qatar are a few of these exceptions, but travellers are urged to contact the relevant country's embassy.

Remember consent from the other parent
If you need a passport for a child, any parent or guardian who is not travelling with the child must fill out a consent form. Remember that you cannot apply for a "regular passport" at Oslo Airport. This must be done in your local police district.

"Remember that the same price applies for an ordinary passport and an emergency passport. Remember to bring identification and two photos if you need to have an emergency passport issued. You can take passport photos at Oslo Airport if you don't already have them," Hegstad concludes.
