Traffic takes off during summer holiday

Despite the gorgeous summer in Norway, international traffic rose by 2.5 per cent in July compared with July last year. Domestic traffic was up by 1.7 per cent.

In all, more than 4.6 million passengers travelled to and from Avinor airports in July. So far this year, nearly 30 million passengers have flown to and from Avinor airports. This represents an increase of 3.7 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Increase at Oslo Airport
A total of 2,357,321 passengers flew to and from the country's main airport, Oslo Airport, in July. This is an increase of 4.9 per cent compared with last year. The increase in international traffic was even higher, at 5.3 per cent.

“We’re very pleased with the continued robust growth in traffic at our airport,” says Lasse André Vangstein, spokesman for Oslo Airport, adding:

“The figures show that there is still plenty of demand in the market and that the beautiful summer weather in Norway doesn’t seem to have affected the desire to travel all that much.”

While Bergen Airport reported a 0.8 per cent increase in domestic traffic in July, overall traffic declined 3.7 per cent. Stavanger Airport recorded a slight decrease of -0.2 per cent overall. Trondheim Airport saw an increase of 1.8 per cent in domestic and international traffic.

Bodø Airport also reports significant increase in international traffic
Thanks to the travel-happy residents of Bodø, international flight traffic to and from Bodø Airport soared by a whopping 19.5% in July.

“The new SAS route to Stockholm has been very well received, contributing to a substantial increase in international travellers in July,” says Inger-Hilde Tobiassen, airport manager at Bodø.

International traffic is also growing at other regional airports such as Ålesund and Svalbard, which saw sharp increases of 12% and 50.5%, respectively.

Aircraft movements in July totalled 71,580, an increase of 4.3% since last July.
The number of aircraft movements so this year is approaching half a million (489,186), up 5.2% compared with last year.
