Oxford University Press to work together with China's largest education press to publish three open access journals

Oxford University Press (OUP) has announced a new agreement with China’s largest education press, Higher Education Press (HEP), to publish three leading open access journals, Protein & Cell, Life Metabolism, and Life Medicine. HEP and OUP have a long history of book licensing together stretching back more than twenty years, and the two organizations will work together to disseminate the open access (OA) journals’ high-quality, high-impact research worldwide.

Protein & Cell is a well-established, peer-reviewed, fully open access journal that publishes cutting edge research in multidisciplinary areas in biology and biomedicine with the aim of promoting discussion among researchers across different fields of the life sciences.

Life Metabolism and Life Medicine are new fully open access, peer-reviewed journals. Life Metabolism publishes a range of significant research relating to metabolism, while Life Medicine publishes research from scientists in the field of biomedical research about basic and translational medicine, with the aim of providing a communication platform for the exchange of cutting-edge knowledge and fresh ideas among medical researchers and clinicians.

Rhodri Jackson, Publishing Director for Open Access and Asia journals at Oxford University Press, said: “We’re delighted to work with Higher Education Press on Protein & Cell, Life Metabolism, and Life Medicine. Protein & Cell has established itself as one of the top journals in cell biology since its launch in 2010. Life Metabolism and Life Medicine are exciting new journals with very strong editorial teams which both successfully launched in 2022. We look forward to working with Higher Education Press and the journals’ editorial teams to deliver on the journals’ aims to publishing quality research worldwide.”

Dr. Zihe Rao, Editor-in-Chief of Protein & Cell, said: “It is our great pleasure to join OUP from January 2023. OUP always represents the highest academic reputation and the best publishing standards. This will become a new stage for Protein & Cell. We will work together to build the journal into a congregating forum for researchers in life sciences worldwide.”
