Apple Slashed Cost Of Replacing Broken iPhone 5 Screens

The Apple iPhone 5 remains one of the biggest selling smartphone models on the market, despite the recent launch of a number of impressive competitors such as the Sony Xperia Z, HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4.

The success of the iPhone 5 follows in the footsteps of previous instalments of the California based manufacturer’s iconic smartphone line. Its spec list boasts plenty of impressive features, making it the most high tech iPhone model to date, like a dual-core processor, iOS 6 operating system, 4 inch retina display and 8 megapixel camera. While the iPhone 5 has received its fair share of critical acclaim, the phone is unfortunately subject to a problem which affects previous iPhone models. This is of course the phone being susceptible to damage to its screen when dropped on a hard surface. Of course, this problem affects all other smartphones, but it seems that iPhones are particularly prone to damage. Of course, coupled with the fact that millions of iPhones are sold every year, this has resulted in a multi million dollar worldwide iPhone repair business. Numerous independent businesses are operating to offer cheap iPhone repair services, thanks to the cheap and easy availability of placement parts from unofficial suppliers. However, uSwitch has recently reported that Apple is looking to undercut its rivals by reducing the cost of its own iPhone repair services. Currently, it costs $229 in the US to replace the screen of an iPhone 5, if the device is not covered by the AppleCare warranty. However, the website reports that this price has been reduced to $149, with official Apple parts used.

Currently, this reduction only applies to the US, but it would not be much of a surprise if it also rolls out across other countries. We will keep you posted if we hear of any updates.
