Operating System Features Of The HTC One X

The latest flagship smartphone from HTC is called the HTC One X, and is the most impressive smartphone to date form the popular Taiwanese manufacturer. The Android OS is one of the reasons that the firm's smartphones have proven so popular, being the operating system on some of its most successful handsets. In this article I will take a look at the software on the HTC One X which is the latest version, alongside the HTC Sense UI.

The HTC One X has already proven popular since its release on February, thanks to a number of features which make it stand out from the competition, namely features like its screen and camera. The Super IPS LCD2 capacitive touchscreen measures 4.7 inches, and is arguably the most impressive touchscreen to date from the manufacturer. This offers excellent display quality thanks to an HD resolution of 720x 1280, which results in a pixel density of 312 pixels per inch. The handset also has the most advanced camera to date from the manufacturer, with 1080p HD video capture, and some unique image capture settings not found on many other smartphones.

The new version of Android called ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ operates in conjunction with HTC's custom Android interface called HTC Sense.  It is apparent that the phone does not run the stock Android interface as soon as you turn the phone on or view the lockscreen.  You will notice that the interface is a completely different appearance to previous versions of Android and HTC Sense alike.  The appearance is simple, with a simplistic layout which looks excellent on the high definition screen.  You will notice many parts of the interface have received the HTC Sense treatment, with very little resemblance to stock Android applications.  Having said that, if you have used a previous version of Android, you will find the HTC One X easy to use.  Menus and applications which are native to Android such as phone, calendar and messaging apps retain the same basic functionality and simple user experience which the platform is well known for.  However you will notice the Sense features which are apparent when you start to customise homescreens with apps, widgets and other content downloaded from Google Play or HTC Hub.

For example, when you unlock the phone you will notice that the HTC Sense UI is present rather than the stock Android interface.  This is because HTC's innovative lockscreen feature is used which has four apps at the bottom of the screen.  These can be accessed without unlocking the screen, instead by dragging the apps into the unlock ring to open them.  All of these apps are customizable, so you can assign the apps you use most often.

The latest version of the HTC Sense user interface is without doubt the best yet.  Providing better cross-app integration with both Sense apps and Android apps, users are sure to appreciate the new levels of customisation whilst retaining the well-known intuitive interface of Sense.
