Sony Announces Its First Phablet Model, The Xperia Z Ultra
Early this week, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra was officially announced, following months of eager anticipation for the company's first phablet smartphone.
The handset, which was previously codenamed as the Togari was finally showcased, revealing the phone’s impressive features. The handset is the latest addition to Sony's impressive Xperia range of Android smart phones, and by far the biggest the company has ever released.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra immediately stands out on account of its huge 6.4 inch display, which comes with a resolution of 1080p and a pixel density of 344ppi. The phone's processor has been widely rumoured in recent weeks, and has being confirmed that the handset runs Qualcomm’s powerful new Snapdragon 800 chipset. This quad-core processor is clocked at 2.2 GHz, and on paper it is by far the most powerful smartphone model on the market, and we expect benchmark tests to confirm this.
The phone is equipped with an 8 megapixel camera with full high definition video capture and Sony's Exmor RS sensor. The latest 4.2.2 instalment of the Android Jellybean OS is its operating system of choice. The device also boasts an official IP58 rating, meaning the handset has been certified as waterproof, and can even withstand submersion in deeper water for longer periods than its Xperia Z counterpart, without sustaining any damage. Additionally, the device is also capable of capturing videos and photos while under water.
In order to run these high-end specifications, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is equipped with an ample 3000mAh battery capacity. Considering its huge size, the handset is also impressively slim, with a thickness of just 6.5mm.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is expected to be launched in Q3
this year, in the same black, white and purple colour options as the standard
Xperia Z. When more information regarding its release date, availability,
pricing and contracts has been revealed, we will be sure to keep you posted. Visit our website for price comparison info on the Sony Xperia Z.
