The HTC One X And iPhone 4S Provide Excellent Web Browsing Features

The Apple iPhone 4S and the HTC One X are among the most impressive smartphones on the market. In this article I am going to look at how they perform as web browsing devices, as this is one of the tasks that smartphones are now most commonly used for.

In order to browse the internet on a smartphone, it is important that these devices utilise the best possible connection methods. Both the iPhone 4S and the HTC One X utilise a3G connection when not within range of a Wi-Fi connection. This utilises the network provider's coverage, and in the case of the iPhone 4S provides data download speeds of up to 14.4 megabytes per second. The HTC One X is faster still, at 21 Mbps. These fast speeds mean that you will experience fast loading times of websites, fast downloads of files like apps and email attachments, and smooth loading and playing of streamed data like YouTube videos. Of course, this is not the only connection method that these phones rely on. Both handsets also include Wi-Fi connectivity which is preferable for a number of reasons. It uses less battery than 3G, offers faster speeds and does not use any of your data allowance should you have such restrictions on your tariff. This also means that no charges will be incurred. All that required to browse the web using Wi-Fi is for the phone to be within range of a router, and for the user to have the appropriate access details.

Now that I have covered the connection methods utilised by these phones I will look at their web browsing apps. The iPhone 4S has the Safari web browser which is the default web browsing app of iOS which is the handset's operating system of choice. The HTC One X has HTC Sense which is the manufacturer's custom Android interface which provides the handset's web browser. Both of these web browsers essentially perform the same functions, and have many features which will be familiar from desktop web browsing packages. You can use the Apple AppStore and the Google Play Store to download alternative web browsers should you wish, with plenty to choose from with popular titles including Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. These are down to personal preference though as you will find that the only differences between most of these browsers are purely aesthetic.
