The HTC Sensation XE Now Boasts The All New Face Unlock Function Courtesy Of Android Ice Cream Sandwich Update

If you are an HTC Sensation XE owner with a UK network provider, the chances are you have downloaded the new Android ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ update. This update includes the innovative ‘Face Unlock’ feature. In this article I will look at how to set up and use this feature.

Setup

In order to setup the ‘Face Unlock’ feature, you first go to the ‘All Apps’ menu. From here, select ‘Security’ and then ‘Screen Lock’. If you currently have a pattern or pass code, you must enter this before you can edit your security settings. When you have done this, select ‘Face Unlock’ from the menu. Instructions will then be displayed on the screen; you must stand indoors in a spot which is neither too bright nor too dark, and hold the phone at eye level. The front facing camera will then activate, and display an outline which you must line up with your face. Hold the position until the screen indicates that it has captured an adequate picture of your face. If you do not use a pattern or pass code, you will then have to set one up in case the ‘Face Unlock’ feature does not recognise you or is unable to detect your face due to the wrong lighting conditions. That is all there is to set up the ‘Face Unlock’ feature on the HTC Sensation XE.

Using Face Unlock

In order to use ‘Face Unlock’, simply press the unlock button at the top of the handset as normal. Then drag the ring into the screen a before, and the ‘Face Unlock’ menu will then be displayed. An outline will appear which you must line up with your face. If it recognises your face, and the lightning conditions are okay, the phone will unlock and reveal the home screen. If it fails to recognise your face, you will then have to enter the pattern or pass code you previously setup. This acts as a failsafe should the feature not recognise you or if someone else tries to unlock your phone.

Of course, the HTC Sensation XE has many new features provided by the Ice Cream Sandwich update.
