Press release -
Nokia's Netbook Goes Live - Nokia Booklet 3G SIM Free
Moving aside from their usual activity of mobile phones, Nokia have now released their first ever laptop although netbook would be a closer description for this latest product.
The Nokia Booklet 3G is the first of its kind from the manufacturer and although sold in the same style as a mobile phone this Nokia laptop offers far more than any handset could ever hope to. Starting with a 10 inch display screen the Nokia Booklet also incorporates 3.5G data support, WiFi and even GPS technology.
Further features include a video call camera, memory card reader and HD video output making this a very attractive crossover between a phone and laptop.
The Nokia Booklet 3G can even access the Ovi store for downloading loads of applications and content including video clips and movie trailers, there is also built-in Ovi software allowing the netbook to synchronize with a phone acting as a mobile modem for web surfing on the go.
Other features include Windows 7 Starter software pre-installed and a 1.6GHz processor, the main body of the Booklet 3G is manufactured from a single piece of aluminium without a built-in fan for heat efficiency.
This latest Nokia product has been released as a SIM Free unit, this means that the Nokia Booklet is cimpletely unlocked to all network providers. Simply slip in your own SIM card whether that be on contract or pay as you go and you can connect to the internet and make calls on your existing number.
In terms of competition there is nothing similar as yet from any other manufacturer, similar technology however can be found in some of the manufacturers own mobile phones as well as some from rival companies. The new Nokia N97 and Nokia N900 incorporate the same 3.5G support, Gps and WiFi as well as a slide out Qwerty keyboard although no phone could claim to be on the same scale as this new Nokia laptop.
Others include the recently launched Motorola Milestone which runs on the Android operating system, the LG GW620 which also runs Android as well as the new Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro.
If physical keyboards are a must then Samsung have their Samsung Omnia Pro handset which reflects many of the features in the previously mentioned phones but runs on Windows.
No other mobile phones manufacturer has yet announced a similar release of a netbook with most concentrating on phones with either touch screen input or with an added Qwerty keyboard. In terms of display screens the closest you can currently get any where near to a laptop is the 4.3 inch size of the HTC HD2 however this is a long way off any netbook.
There are no confirmed release dates for the Nokia Booklet 3G to be launched on any of the networks with a contract subsidy so for now consumers will have to pay the 'real' price of the product.
