Press release -

£10,000 raised for charity by philanthropic PKF

Midlands-based PKF Smith Cooper has raised over £10,000 for charity over the past twelve months. From daring sky dives and mountain climbs to volunteering in the community, the accounting and advisory company has supported several local and national causes through firm-wide fundraising initiatives.

The money has helped to raise vital funds for Williams Syndrome Foundation, national hunger-fighting charity Fare Share and the firm’s charity of the year Ilkeston-based children’s cancer charity Ben’s Den.

Stand out initiatives from the firm’s successful year of fundraising include two Partners tackling a skydive in May and the Business Recovery and Insolvency team conquering the famous Three Peaks challenge in July.

PKF Smith Cooper also organised firm-wide volunteering opportunities, giving people from all offices the chance to dedicate their time to local causes during work hours. The initiative saw the firm complete 120 hours of volunteering in total. The volunteering included sorting donations for Nottingham homeless charity Emmanuel House, cataloguing books for the new school library at Foxwood Academy in Nottingham, gardening at the historic Highbury Estate in Birmingham and planting trees at Broomfield Hall in Derby as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy programme to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

Several Partners at the company are also active in charitable causes outside of work life. Senior Partner David Nelson is a trustee for the Derbyshire Institute of Sport and Enthusiasm, an East Midlands charity that promotes social mobility by teaching disadvantaged young people valuable life skills. Tax Partner Adam Rollason is a volunteer for Tax Help for Older People and last July Business Recovery and Insolvency Partner Michael Roome jived in the Leicester Ballroom Glitz charity competition to raise money for LOROS Hospice and Hope Against Cancer.

David Nelson, Senior Partner at PKF Smith Cooper, commented: “As our firm continues to expand, it is important to us that we give back to the communities and charities servicing the locations in which we are based. We are always looking for opportunities to support worthwhile causes in the Midlands and nationwide, whether that’s through volunteering or fundraising. Every year our team nominates a charity of the year, which becomes the focal point of our fundraising efforts – this year it was Ben’s Den and the next charity we will be supporting is Alzheimer’s Society.

£10,000 is a great feat and truly a team effort. I would like to take the opportunity to thank our team for the time and money they have donated over the past year, as well as those individuals and businesses outside the company that helped us achieve this total.

Alice Grewcock, East Midlands Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society, said: “Alzheimer’s Society is delighted to be PKF Smith Cooper’s chosen charity of the year. With over 150,000 people living with dementia in the Midlands and 900,000 across the UK, there has never been a more important time to support our work.

Alzheimer’s Society relies on the generosity of its supporters, like PKF Smith Cooper, to help us continue our vital work, providing help and hope for people affected by dementia. We’re really looking forward to the year ahead with PKF Smith Cooper and the amazing work they are going to do to support Alzheimer’s Society.
