Postmasters to help shape Post Office’s future
Post Office has enlisted the help of 250 postmasters to work directly with Post Office colleagues, to help shape the future of its network internally.
The brand-new initiative, named ‘Adopt a Function,’ launched at the beginning of September. Described by Post Office as a landmark move the scheme is the single biggest change that Post Office has made to include and involve postmasters in the business going forwards.
The process to onboard a pool of postmasters began three months ago with a recruitment campaign which included driving awareness at postmaster events and meetings. A leaflet which explained the initiative was also circulated to all postmasters in the network.
The campaign encouraged postmasters to support engagement activities in 17 different departments across Post Office and they were urged to sign up for a role. Interest was high and 250 postmasters applied for a role (recruitment is ongoing, there’s no limit on the number of postmasters who can sign up)
The 250 newly recruited postmasters are from several different regions, run different types of branches and have varying levels of experience – some have been postmasters for years and some have only just started running a branch.
The initiative will sees the newly recruited postmasters working with internal Post Office teams in several key functions (alongside running their branches) including Revenue, Technology, Communications, Transformation, Operations and Culture. For example, one postmaster is working with members of the Post Office’s Public Affairs and Policy team, while another is working alongside members of its Travel Money division. The postmasters in these new roles will be renumerated for their time.
Postmaster Experience Director Mark Eldridge said: “This is ground breaking because it will now involve far more postmasters and their passion to help transform Post Office in a much more consistent form by having postmasters embedded right throughout the business.”
