Press release -

Residents and traders invited to update on rail road bridge closure

THREE drop-in sessions will be held next week to share progress being made to address concerns about the temporary closure of Mill Road Bridge in 2019.

Residents and traders will be able to meet representatives from Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), Network Rail and contractors Spencer’s on 27 November between 1100-1300, 1400-1600 and 1700-1900.

The venue for next week’s sessions is on Mill Road, at the Earl of Beaconsfield, Billiard Room, 133 Mill Road (access via Great Eastern Street).

GTR and Network Rail are extending Cambridge railway depot to help increase the number of Thameslink services to and from Cambridge.

The £30m investment, which is part of the Government-sponsored Thameslink Programme, will improve cross-London rail links to and from the City, from places as far afield as Brighton and Gatwick Airport, helping boost the local economy.

As part of this, it is necessary to temporarily close Mill Road Bridge for work to create an additional railway line underneath to serve the depot.

Kevin Parker, for GTR, said: “We are listening to what people are telling us, to the views of the community and local traders, and want to share how we propose to address these concerns.”
