Quartiers predicts strong housing market on the Costa del Sol and plans launch of 60 new build apartments in 2022

The housing market on the Costa del Sol, and in particular Marbella and the surrounding area, is expected to experience a sharp boost post Covid-19. This is largely due to the acceleration of digital developments being further fuelled by the Coronavirus pandemic, but also factors such as the region’s unique microclimate, schools and world-class healthcare, along with a growing global acceptance and trend of people no longer having to live and work in the same city and country.

Quartiers has therefore resumed its work on the Ocean View project, which was put on hold when the pandemic first hit. Several changes have been made to the project team, including the addition of the renowned Malaga-based architectural firm HCP Arquitectos Asociado, who have been contracted as the lead architect. Interior and exterior design have been developed in association with Stockholm-based Whyte Lilja.

“Since the heavy restrictions were lifted in the spring, we have seen a surge in demand for housing in the region, and owing to digitalisation and a greater degree of acceptance from employers, an increasing number of people are being given the opportunity to settle on the Costa del Sol. Housing prices in the region are far from the equivalent in European cities, which means that buyers get a lot more for their money here. We believe that the discrepancy in price per square metre will narrow as the digitalisation trend strengthens further and Marbella continues to grow with more restaurants, more good schools and other factors that contribute to a unique quality of life that in many ways differs from the typical lifestyle in a European city today,” said Quartiers’ CEO Marcus Johansson Prakt.

Quartiers Properties operates in Spain in the province of Málaga on the Costa del Sol, a market shown by a number of studies to be the fastest-growing property market in Spain. Growth in the region is due to a combination of increasing domestic demand, the region’s climate with over 320 days of sunshine a year, excellent national and international communications, and technological developments enabling more people to live in the region while retaining links to friends, family and work in their home country. Quartiers is active in two main segments; Property Value Creation and Property Development. Both business areas aim to generate value in the current property portfolio in different ways. In the Property Development segment this is done by developing carefully designed concepts for villas and apartments, which are then marketed and sold. The Property Value Creation segment focuses on transforming underperforming properties in a way that leverages each property’s unique characteristics, to enable a higher valuation when the property is either sold or revalued for refinancing on improved loan terms.
