Children’s Franchise Owner ‘Saws’ to New Heights

Rhythm Time children’s franchise owner and music group teacher, Caroline Watsham, had a taste of fame last month as she performed in front of the Britain’s Got Talent panel and audience in the second round of auditions for the popular TV show. 

Caroline, who teaches Rhythm Time’s educational music classes to local babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers across Oxfordshire, was delighted to get through to the second stage with her ‘musical saw’ act.  “From the original 70,000 auditioned, I was one of only a few hundred that got shortlisted for this round, and to be able to perform in front of Simon Cowell and the rest of the panel was extremely daunting, but great fun” she said.

“I have always loved music and really enjoy seeing how the babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers in my classes develop through music.  I’ve only been playing the saw (which was passed on to me by my late father) for about six months now, and with so many talented people taking part, I was genuinely proud to have got this far” she adds. 

Caroline bought her Rhythm Time children’s franchise in 2007 and now over 70 babies and children enjoy her music sessions. Rhythm Time’s unique set of music courses have been specifically written by Kathy Doolan (previously Head of Music at a Scottish school and graduate of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama). The courses have been created to help every child’s development and are aimed at different age groups, specifically: music classes for babies (from birth to 15 months), music classes for toddlers (15 months to 3 years), and music classes for pre-schoolers (3 – 5 years).   Kathy is a strong advocate of music being crucial in helping to develop a child’s speech and language from an early age and this forms a key element in all the classes.

Caroline is now happy to return to teaching her pre-school music classes after her BGT experience and will continue to play the musical saw in her spare time.

Caroline Watsham lives in Cropredy in Oxon and has always loved music.  She became a Rhythm Time franchisee in 2007 and runs her music classes for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers across Oxfordshire.

Caroline entered the popular Britain’s Got Talent competition earlier this year with her ‘musical saw’ act.  She was shortlisted from 70,000 people to get through to the second round of auditions in January 2012, where she had to perform in front of Simon Cowell and his panel of judges.

Rhythm Time was started in Solihull in 1995 by Kathy Doolan.  After a very successful five years, Kathy decided to franchise the business in 2000.
