Press release -
Rob Shoesmith and his iPhone 5 experiment
To many, queuing for what could be weeks on end for a small device with a piece of fruit on the back seems beyond crazy. Even for Apple fanatics, camping out for the new iPhone 5 may be too big an effort. The cold, the time off work and the general lack of amenities - is it worth it for a phone that you could wait a couple of days till the mayhem stops and just walk into the shop? What if it was not about the phone, but to prove a point about the strength of the Apple brand and national coverage.
Rob Shoesmith is looking to turn the marketing and PR world on its head by camping out for the new iPhone 5, the moment the release date is announced. Sounds like a crazed “Machead” (this is the name of Apple fanatics), but what Rob is looking to prove by thinking outside the box is that with the right publicity you can create a media storm.
When the release date is announced, Rob will be making his way down to Apple’s Covent Garden store where he will camp outside the door with a slight twist, he won’t be spending any of his own money at all for the time he is in the queue. This is not because the iPhone 5 is outrageously expensive, but more to outline the power of “free advertising”. So in return for companies' services or products, not only will Rob blog about them, but he will also put them to the test and name-drop them at every opportunity.
He has so far secured equipment from the sensible and required – such as warm clothes and camping equipment – to the wacky – a portable urination unit for women, as well as belly dancers, magicians, and even a company who will come and pick up his dirty washing! To date Rob has been donated in excess of £15,000 worth of goods and services from over 150 companies.
It is not as if Rob is jobless and just looking for something to do; he has the full backing of his company MEDL Mobile, a US-based app development studio where he works as a Marketing and PR Executive.
Rob will be blogging daily on his website www.iphone5experiment.com and can be contacted by any of the following methods
