ACR Electronics Inc: Highlights the Importance Of 406 Mhz Beacon Carriage in Aviation with New Alaska Sponsorship Initiative

Fort Lauderdale, Florida, May 13, 2016 – Global leader in safety and survival technologies, ACR Electronics, Inc., a Drew Marine Company, will showcase to aircraft owners and operators the importance of having a 406 MHz beacon by backing this year’s Hudson Memorial Fly In held in Talkeetna, Alaska. As a Gold Sponsor of the annual event, ACR Electronics is using its first major aviation project to endorse the use of devices such as ARTEX ELTs (Emergency Locator Transmitters), ACR PLBs (Personal Locator Beacons), signaling devices and other safety accessories.

Both ACR’s PLBs and ARTEX ELTs relay emergency signals to the Cospas-Sarsat system, which since its inception in the early 1980’s has provided distress alert information to Search and Rescue centers. This relay has assisted in the rescue of nearly 40,000 people in 11,070 different distressful situations worldwide. Specific to aviation just last year there were 21 people rescued in 11 incidents alone*.

The Alaska initiative follows the announcement that ACR’s complete suite of ARTEX ELTs is now available, strengthening the safety and survival technology expert’s presence in the sector. Taking place this weekend from May 13th to 15th, the Hudson Memorial Fly In celebrates the rich aviation history of Talkeetna, Alaska and is dedicated to the memory of Cliff Hudson and his son Jay Hudson. It is organized by local business owners and members of the community and sponsored by the Alaska Airman Association.

ACR Electronics has supplied a survival kit, including an ARTEX ELT 345, RapidDitch Bag, signaling devices and a ResQLink PLB, as a prize during the weekend which features a list of activities, demos and entertainment for attendees. Florida-based ACR also donated an ARTEX ELT for the Alaska Airmen Association's raffle plane built by Above Alaska Aviation that was raffled off at the Great Alaska Gathering earlier this month in Anchorage.

Sarah Russell, Manager of Above Alaska Aviation, LLC, shared: “We are really pleased to welcome ACR’s support for this year’s event, as well as the Alaska Airmen’s raffle plane, as it provides a good opportunity to raise the profile of aviation safety in Alaska. Our company has PLBs, and as a company policy, our pilots and solo students are required to take them with them when they fly. We are 100% in support of pilots carrying them.”
