The Power of Likes

With regards to the PETA report about the truth about how angora rabbits are treated in the fur industry, Swedish Retailer Åhléns posted this on their Facebook page.

For those of you with a rusty Swedish, it is basically an explanation of how Åhléns explains that they take this seriously and really disapprove of to this kind of animal treatment. They have also removed their own angora merchandise in their stores as well as spoken to supplier brands with angora products, urging them to handle it.

The first interesting thing here is the number of likes and comments. When this screen dump was taken the number of likes was just above 3000. Browsing through the Åhléns Facebook page, you can see that most posts have between 200-500 likes. So, this issue obviously engaged people. In times when we hear things such as ”consumers only care about price”, this is a welcome addition to the debate.

The second interesting, and somewhat sad, thing is that approximately 98% of the people that like the post are women! Men are still lagging behind.

A conclusion to be drawn here is that people really care, and not only the ones belonging to the Dedicated group of the population (approximately 6% in Sweden) but regular people that belong to the so called Moderate group (48%). This is good news!
