SkiStar Åre: Åre’s ‘In the Footsteps of Giants’ nominated for international award
The conceptual light setting “In the Footsteps of Giants” is
one of the remaining finalists for the Lamp Awards 2013 – an international
competition in architectural lighting. In the Footsteps of Giants was designed by Ljusarkitektur
and is one of the 20 finalists selected from 608 entrants.
The lighting installation In the Footsteps of Giants, is since two winter seasons a prominent feature in the town of Åre. The blue lights on the slopes are visible from a distance as daylight fades. During night skiing, the trail In the Footsteps of Giants invites the skiers to a 3.5 km light and sound experience, depicting a saga with ancient giant trolls.
The natural features along the trail are in strategic places highlighted with patterns, lights and mystical formations of light that, together with the sound effects illustrate the saga of Rut i Skut and the other giants who long ago, may or may not have lived on Mount Åreskutan.
And now the designer, Ljusarkitektur, is a finalist with the project In the Footsteps of Giants in the international competition Lamp Awards 2013. In the category Urban and Landscape, the Åre project will be shown side by side with contributions from Mexico, Mali, Germany and Singapore. In all, a total of 608 projects from 52 countries were submitted.
