Sony designer creates new PQ headphone brand

Accomplished Sony designer, skater and DJ, Rui Morisawa, has created a new headphone brand inspired by his street culture experiences in Tokyo and New York.

PQ began as an idea: a flash in the mind of a young designer. From his teenage years spent skating sidewalks, Rui Morisawa has always had creativity in his blood. And as a designer, he’d always felt his headphones were missing something – attention to detail; a bold style.

So, here is the PQ range; Rui’s latest canvas, and proof that ideas, with a little tenacity, can become real.

The new range of PQ headphones features four different models, each offering its own unique style and features; Velcro adjustments that could replace plastic sliders, flat outer ear pieces that don’t detract from sound quality, and flat cords that won’t tangle. They have been designed to survive the rough and tumble of an active daily life in addition to providing great clarity of sound.

PQ1

Powerful Bass

With cushioned leather earpads angled inwards to sit comfortably with the natural angle of the ear, the PQ1 sits at the top of the PQ range. It features a removable, flat, tangle-free cord and a headband made from trainer-like material so the more it wears, the better it looks. Unique ratchet bands similar to those found on snowboard boots are used for adjusting the headband and a 40mm driver produces powerful bass and loud volume.

PQ2

Smooth Sound

Featuring cushion covered ear pads and headband for easy wearing on your head or round your neck, the PQ2s are the smoothest cans around. Every inch of the design is streamlined so the owner can skate, ride or board without any interference. The cord is flat and tangle-free, and coated to be extra sleek. A 30mm driver delivers a smooth bass line and excellent low, mid and high tones.

PQ3

Impact Resistant

The PQ3s offer a flexible design and are impact resistant, making them ideal for any sport that involves taking a few knocks. A sliding mechanism hidden in the headband offers added strength and the 30mm driver delivers great sound audio.

PQ5

Big Bass, Little Face

With an instantly recognisable look, the PQ5s push bass through the ‘eye holes’ of the gas mask design and offer a remarkably snug fit in addition to compelling audio via a 13.5mm driver. Coming in a range of colours, the PQ5s are destined to become a ‘must have’ audio accessory.

The name PQ derives from peak, as in ‘highest point.’ Rui comments, “I wanted the range to stand for headphones that are made for younger generations taking on challenges and pushing limits.”
