STAMMA Appoints High-Flyers to Support 'Space to Stammer'

In support of the charity’s ambitious new strategy ‘Space to Stammer’ the organisation has appointed two high flying fundraising experts to their Board of Trustees: Cate Birch, Head of Fundraising at York Minster and Fiona Stewart, Philanthropy Lead at Comic Relief alongside Communications expert Penny East.

STAMMA Appoints a New Chair

STAMMA has appointed Roger Pim as its new Chair, who will sit on the Board as Chair Elect until October when Acting Chair Paul Fix will formally hand over the reins. Roger first got involved in the charity in 2004, as a founding Board member of the Scottish Branch of the British Stammering Association (now STAMMA). The vacancy came about when Joanna Gaukroger stood down for health reasons.

WORLD-WIDE CALL FOR 'THE RIGHT TO STUTTER'

STAMMA has signed a declaration alongside 72 other organisations around the world calling for the right to stutter. International Stammering Awareness Day is usually filled with stories of 'overcoming' one's stammer. This year STAMMA and other countries around the world are calling for the right to stammer to be recognised, accepted and space made for people to talk in the way that they do.

STAMMA, the British Stammering Association, have been contacted by hundreds of members who have found that a ‘woozy face’ 🥴 emoji automatically appears on their phone or ipad when typing in the word ‘stammering’.

Through its website, stamma.org, helpline and backing of local meetup and self-help groups, STAMMA provides information and support for people who stammer and those living, supporting or working with them.
