Kirsten Howells to Become Deputy CEO at STAMMA

STAMMA is pleased to announce that Kirsten Howells, Director of Services at STAMMA, is now also Deputy CEO as from 1st July.

The STAFF team at STAMMA have grown over the last four years under the stewardship of CEO Jane Powell and thanks to some generous legacies left by members. With 11 full-time and part-time staff, the need to share and split responsibilities has become increasingly clear.

Howells has led STAMMA’s services since late 2019, when she oversaw the introduction of a new webchat service. Since then she has introduced the Employment Service, worked with Catherine Woolley to develop STAMMA’s Family Support, and has just launched a new Advocacy Service, for those who believe they have been discriminated against because of their stammer (laughed at when ordering food or drink, failed to get a well deserved promotion, unable to navigate a voice activated system).

Howells said

"I'm excited to be taking on this new role in STAMMA - an organisation made up of amazing volunteers, members and staff that I'm proud to be part of. I'm looking forward to the adventures ahead! We'll continue developing our support for people who stammer and push the world to understand that stammering is simply the way that some of us talk."
