Six-year-old Gabriel and best friend Missy run Manchester marathon in support of STAMMA

Six year old Gabriel Brown and his best friend and classmate Missy Grimes are running in the 1.5 KM Mini Great Manchester Run this Sunday in aid of STAMMA, and its support for parents of children who stammer. Together, they’ve raised a whopping £1,126.

Around 8% of children stammer at some point, leaving parents often unable to know where to turn. Gabriel’s mum Laura, who has raised over 700% of his target through events like a school bake sale, said: “I’ve been inspired by STAMMA’s Parent-2-Parent support group, which has been a lifeline to me when Gabriel began to stammer“. Missy, who has been Gabriel's "bestie since forever", is running in support of her friend, and STAMMA.

Also taking part in Manchester this weekend are: Mandy Taylor and her eight year old son Kieran, Nic Maddy and Cynthia Dacillo, Christopher Shoop-Worral, and Clara Burns.

Our Purpose

We exist to create a world that makes space for stammering. Where it's embraced as just a difference. Where no-one judges your stammer or the way you choose to deal with it. We’ll get there by bringing people together, whether they stammer or not, to propel a movement for change.

We will stand up for and embolden those who stammer, provide support and information, and challenge discrimination wherever we find it. We’ll fight for NHS speech and language therapy services for those want it. No matter how you talk, we're here for you.

Join us and help the public understand that stammering is not a sign of being drunk, dishonest, nervous or weak. It’s simply how some of us talk.
