Members at Thornbury Golf club have raised a massive £5770.00 this year which has been donated to two stroke charities. The Captains’ charities for 2014 are The Stroke Association and The Thornbury & District Stroke Support Group.

Stroke survivors send Christmas messages to others in Acute Stroke Unit
Stroke survivors from the Wokingham Stroke Support Group have created Christmas decorations with messages for new stroke survivors to encourage them in their fight to recovery. Messages of ‘Keep smiling’, ‘Keep going’ and ‘Don’t give up’ are included in the decorations which have been used to decorate the tree in the Acute Stroke unit at Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Special Stroke Choir uses the power of song to find their voices
The Petersfield Stroke Association Voluntary Group has formed an Aphasia choir and they will be performing for the first time on 20th December 2014 in the town centre. The group who all suffer from Aphasia will be singing a selection of Christmas Carols.

Stroke survivors and carers met with a variety of stroke care professionals to give feedback on their experience of stroke and the stroke care pathway in City. The annual feedback event was held in the Holiday Inn on 20th November 2014.

CCG Outcomes Indicator Set December 2014 show stroke treatment in England varies widely by location. Figures released show that the treatment of stroke patients in England differs depending on where patients live. Of the 68,8003 patients admitted to hospital with stroke in 2013-14, 60% were admitted to an acute stroke unit within 4 hours of arrival at hospital.

First class: The first Life after Stroke Grant funded by Royal Mail
Royal Mail Group has delivered the first Life after Stroke Grant funded by its Charity of the Year partnership with the Stroke Association. Jabeen Mitha, a 56 year old stroke survivor, is the first beneficiary of 10,000 Life after Stroke Grants that the postal service aims to fund over the next two years.

Croydon resident tackles Authentic Greek Marathon for stroke
Croydon resident George Thanasoulias took on the Authentic Greek Marathon on Sunday 9 November with his friend Jordan Charlesworth in aid of the Stroke Association, after both their Grandfathers had devastating strokes.
