Stem cell research shows promising results - the Stroke Association comments

The latest results from a clinical trial in Glasgow show that injecting stem cells into the brain can regenerate damaged brain tissue, and could one day become an effective therapy for stroke patients.

Commenting on the findings, Dr Shamim Quadir, Research Communications Manager at the Stroke Association, said:"In the UK, someone has a stroke every three and half minutes, and the condition is a leading cause of disability. There are very limited treatment options for people who have a stroke, and there is an urgent need for new ways to prevent the condition’s debilitating impact. We therefore welcome the encouraging findings from the PISCES research, and a larger trial to further investigate this potential stem cell treatment for stroke.”
