Stroke Association congratulates Prof Averil Mansfield for her Lifetime Achievement Award
The UK's first female professor of surgery, Averil Mansfield has been awarded an NHS Hero Award.
Juliet Bouverie, Chief Executive of the Stroke Association said:
“We are delighted to congratulate Professor Averil Mansfield on winning an NHS Hero Award for Lifetime Achievement.
“As a pioneering surgeon and much respected former Chair of the Stroke Association, Averil has been an inspiring and influential figure in the world of stroke for many years. Surgical procedures she developed to prevent strokes are now available throughout the UK. Without her extraordinary vision, passion and commitment to improving stroke care, many thousands of people would not be alive today.”
