Well Pharmacy and the Stroke Association join forces to conquer stroke

The Stroke Association and Well Pharmacy have joined forces to try and reduce people’s risk of stroke across the UK. The national pharmacy chain is aiming to raise £250,000 for the Stroke Association’s Know Your Blood Pressure campaign, which helps people lower their risk of stroke by providing blood pressure checks within local communities.

The new charity partnership will focus on promoting stroke prevention by raising and awareness of high blood pressure as the biggest controllable risk factor for stroke: the UK’s fourth biggest killer.

Well Pharmacy offers free blood pressure checks and advice in its stores nationwide, helping people reduce their risk of stroke by highlighting high blood pressure as a significant risk factor.

John Nuttall, Chief Executive Officer of Well, said: “At Well, we’re passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of our customers and the communities that we serve.

“Having witnessed at first hand the impact and effect that strokes have had on my own family, I’m very proud of our new partnership, and like many of our colleagues, I’m confident that we can make a real difference.

“As a community pharmacy, we can raise awareness of stroke prevention but most importantly, offer expert advice on managing high blood pressure, which could reduce people’s risk of stroke.”

Over 9.5 million people across the UK have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, and a further 5.5 million are thought to be unaware they have the condition. High blood pressure contributes to around half of all strokes.

Juliet Bouverie, Chief Executive at the Stroke Association, said: “Our partnership with Well is a fantastic opportunity to help us conquer stroke. The vital funds raised will support our important prevention work to reduce the devastating impact the condition can have.

“High blood pressure has no symptoms and many people are unaware that they have it. With Well’s support, we can reduce the nation’s risk of stroke by educating the public on the simple lifestyle changes that can be made to help lower blood pressure, which is one of the leading risk factors of stroke.

“Through the incredible generosity of individuals and organisations such as Well, we will be able to do even more to help prevent stroke.”
