Bristol resident takes on the Cheltenham Half Marathon in memory of his brother

Darren Wilshire, 35, from Bristol is taking on the Cheltenham Half Marathon on Sunday 01 October, to raise vital funds for the Stroke Association.

Darren was inspired to take on the half marathon after his brother Steve had a stroke last year and sadly passed away.

Darren said: “Nothing could have prepared us for the sudden shock of a Steve’s stroke.

“Steve was the best brother I could had asked for. We all miss terribly. I now know just how devastating stroke can be, and how little people know about the condition. It’s my mission to now raise more awareness and celebrate my brother’s life.

“Steve was taken far too early, but he’ll never be forgotten. Taking on this half marathon and supporting the Stroke Association is something I wanted to do in his memory.

“I’ve been training up to three times a week, and going to the gym too. It’s tough at the moment, but knowing Steve is watching down on me is what’s getting me through it. He’ll be with me every step of the way.”
