Forest Hill resident tackles London Marathon in memory of twin sister

Samantha Cook, 36, from Forest Hill is taking on the Virgin Money London Marathon to raise funds for the Stroke Association in memory of her twin sister who passed away from a stroke in 2008.

Samantha said: “It means so much to me and my family to not only raise money, but also awareness about stroke. I chose to raise funds for the Stroke Association because of the incredible work the charity does to support people affected by this devastating condition.

“I wanted to do something big to mark the ten year anniversary of Sue’s passing away. It had to be a significant challenge, and for me running a marathon is just that. My sister is my inspiration to make sure that I get to the finish line at the marathon. When it comes to the big day, I know she will be in my mind, spurring me on.”

Emma Evans at the Stroke Association, said: “A stroke can happen to anyone at any age, at any time and it turns lives upside down. It’s the fourth biggest killer in the in the UK and a leading cause of disability.

“We’re thrilled Samantha is taking on this challenge to raise vital funds for the Stroke Association and we’re looking forward to cheering her on as she makes her way through London. Around 1.2 million people in the UK are living with the devastating impact of stroke. With the support of people like Samantha we can help more stroke survivors and their families rebuild their lives.”
