Formby Stroke Survivor Officially Opens Vision Express Store

A stroke survivor was guest of honour at the official opening of the Vision Express store in The Beacons, Formby on Saturday.

Morag Montgomery, from Formby, is pictured cutting the ribbon to officially unveil the store’s re-furbished eye health facilities with (l-r) Vision Express staff Denise Wallace, manager Nicole Bentham, Susan Fitton Information Advice & Support Coordinator for the Stroke Association and Hannah Bosman.

Morag, was representing the Stroke Association, which is a charity partner of Vision Express. Morag had a stroke in September 2007, which affected the movement in her left side. After being supported by the Stroke Association, Morag chose to become a volunteer, attending carers’ groups and events, helping to raise awareness of stroke and supporting stroke survivors and their families.

Commenting on the opening, Morag said: “I was delighted to attend the Formby Vision Express store opening. A stroke can have a huge impact on someone’s life, and that’s why I was so grateful to be part of the day and help raise awareness of the condition. The Vision Express team was very keen to support the work of the Stroke Association.”

The opening marks the store becoming part of the Vision Express family, following the company’s acquisition of Conlons Opticians, which brings the total number of stores nationwide to over 390. The former Conlons store has traded in Formby since the 1970s.

Vision Express store manager Nicole Bentham, says, ‘We’d like to thank Morag for helping us officially open our new store and would also like to thank all our customers for their patience while the store has been closed during refurbishment. We hope they are as thrilled as we are with the comfort and first class facilities of our revised store. ‘Our Formby team has a combined experience spanning over 75 years in the optical industry and we’re proud that over years of trading in the town we’ve built a loyal following of customers. We look forward to continuing to provide a first class eye care service to the people of Formby.’
