Jersey resident tackles New York Marathon for the Stroke Association

Emily Le Beuvant, 32 from St Lawrence, is taking on the New York Marathon on Sunday 4 November, to raise vital funds for the Stroke Association.

Emily was inspired to take on the marathon after her friend had a stroke. Emily said: “I was really shocked when my close friend had a stroke whilst on holiday with his family earlier in the year. My friend is only in his 40’s and has a young daughter. It really hit home that a stroke can happen at any age, and at any time. My friend was fit and healthy, I couldn’t believe it could happen to him.

“I’ve chosen to support the Stroke Association as I think we are all too quick to take the simple things in life for granted. However, when these things are no longer simple it makes you realise how important it is to have that choice – to able to run for example.

“Training is going really well so far and I am currently injury free – long may that continue! I am hoping to just enjoy the experience and take in the atmosphere and support from the crowds and other participants. I have been to New York in the past, but this time I will get to see it in a whole new light and I must remember to look around at the sights whilst running.”

Tracy O’Regan, Fundraising Manager at the Stroke Association in Jersey, said: “With around 100,000 strokes a year in the UK – that’s around one every five minutes - it is vital that we have people who can raise funds for people affected by stroke. We’re incredibly grateful to Emily for taking on this challenge. The money will go a long way in helping to support people who are living with the effects of stroke, as well as their families and carers.”
