Local Stroke Researcher gets into gear for Edinburgh Marathon in May

Marianne Donald from Glasgow is taking on her first full Marathon in May as part of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival (28-29thMay.)

She will be doing it to increase awareness of stroke and raise funds for the Stroke Association.

Marianne is a stroke researcher at the University of Glasgow, working on research around the damage caused by stroke. She is passionate about the cause and believes funding research into stroke, is a vital thing to do.

“Stroke research is fascinating and I believe there is a great opportunity to learn more about the brain and ultimately put our research into practice to improve stroke outcomes. I also believe that the practical help and support the charity offers will help rebuild lives for people affected by stroke. Far too many people are living with this devastating condition and more help is needed to fund research into new treatments and ongoing support to help improve recoveries after stroke.”

Marianne is training hard for her marathon and is building up her distance on each run she takes.

She says:

“I’ve never run this far, but I think I can do it. I’m really excited and can’t think of a better way to raise money than to give myself a challenge and do it for a good cause.”

Andrea Watt, Relationship Fundraiser in Scotland said:

“Marianne is undertaking an enormous challenge – running a marathon is no mean feat. We are so grateful to Marianne for supporting the stroke cause and wish her well in her efforts to increase awareness and raise funds. Thank you!”
