Local woman sets ambitious target for Kiltwalks in Scotland

Diane Agnew, 43, from Largs has decided to take on all four of the Kiltwalks in Scotland to raise funds for the Stroke Association.

The Kiltwalk is Scotland’s largest mass participation walking event with over 145,000 people taking part since 2016. Last year’s event was the biggest with 27,500 Kiltwalkers raising a total of over £5.1 million for 1,550 Scottish charities.

Diane will be taking part in all four Kiltwalks in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Each has a distance of around 20 miles. This weekend, Diane is going to be partaking in the Glasgow Kiltwalk. She says:

“I am proud to be raising funds for the Stroke Association. Someone very close to me had a stroke late last year, and it affected me deeply. Thankfully her stroke was mild compared to others and she can still lead an independent life. But her life has changed with the stroke. Given her stroke was only seven months ago, there is still quite a bit to go in her recovery period.

“I want to raise funds for a cause I believe in. I also want more people to know that having a stroke, needn’t be a life sentence. There is hope after stroke, I really believe it is recoverable.”

Julia Shepherd, Products Officer at the Stroke Association said:

“It’s incredible to see how dedicated Diane is to undertake all four Kiltwalks. It’s quite a commitment to give up four sets of weekends to undertake the challenge, so we’re very grateful to Diane for doing this, whilst raising funds for charity. Thank you!

“We’re also thrilled that Diane will be raising funds for us again. She is one of the lucky ones to have won the ballot to partake in The Supernova Forth Road Bridge Experience in November. Wishing Diane all the best with that, we appreciate your help. The funds raised will be used to help prevent stroke, and support those who have had a stroke.”
